Micro-donations or as they are often called, text-to-donate are often thought about in catastrophe marketing where people can donate and help out by texting to a short code. When they text in they get back a response that might be similar to:

“American Red Cross: To complete your donation of $5 to the Disaster Relief, reply YES to this text. $5 will be charged to your cell phone bill”.

When the donor replies ‘Yes’ they receive a confirmation text message back and are charged $5.00 on their next bill.

Setting up these campaigns has quite a few drawbacks and are only recommended for non-profits of very large sizes with bigger marketing budgets to promote the fundraiser.

Although the sizes of the donation request can come in $5, $10, or even $20 increments, most non-profits that have attempted to set-up this type of campaign have less success. With that being said, we have alternative text-to-donate methods that work wonderfully for non-profits and initiate a Return-on-Investment.
